This is a gaming-first 27-inch QHD OLED: deep blacks in dark scenes, a 240 Hz ceiling when the PC can feed it, and a glare-reduced film that helps on reflective desks. The practical brightness constraint is the 200 cd/m² typical rating — treat HDR as format support, not a bright-room punch promise.
No published PWM frequency was found for this model. If you are flicker-sensitive, try the panel in person before you commit. At ~109 PPI, mixed desktop use is workable; if you live in long document sessions, check text rendering on a live unit because no independent subpixel/text test was published.
Gaming motion and VRR
The G61SH tops out at 240 Hz with FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support. When frame rates and settings can keep up, that ceiling is the main motion story.
Samsung rates response time at 0.03 ms GtG. Vortex Gaming separately reported a 94 ms result without a clear method or unit interpretation in the accessible review — keep those figures separate; do not average them.
HDR, OLED contrast, and bright-room limits
OLED pixels can switch off individually, so black levels and dark-scene contrast come from the panel itself rather than conventional local-dimming zones.
Samsung rates 200 cd/m² typical and 400 cd/m² peak, and lists HDR10 plus HDR10+ Gaming. Vortex Gaming measured about 211 cd/m² maximum SDR and about 423 cd/m² maximum HDR, without stating window size, duration, or instrument. Use that as a rough check against the Samsung numbers, not as sustained full-screen brightness.
Glare, text, and desk setup
Samsung’s Glare Free film claim includes “54% less glossy than conventional anti-reflection film.” B&H also lists an anti-glare finish. Place the monitor away from bright windows anyway — the typical brightness rating is modest.
Confirmed ports are DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. B&H lists a 3.5 mm headphone output; confirm that for your region. Stand height, tilt, swivel, pivot, footprint, and VESA mounting are not locked in the retained US display claims — verify them on the US product page or manual before you buy for a fixed desk or arm.
OLED static UI (taskbars, HUDs, chat overlays) deserves a thought on long sessions. Use the Burn-in Test if a logo seems to linger after content changes; it inspects symptoms and does not repair wear.
