Company-wide device operations

Device operations setup for growing businesses

Device Operations Setup creates company-wide procedures for assigning, preparing, tracking, returning, and reassigning employee devices—without a monthly managed IT contract. Later employee setups and offboarding can follow those procedures.

  • No dedicated device-operations team required
  • Fixed-price project
  • You keep passwords

When Device Operations Setup helps

This engagement creates company-wide device procedures, standards, and records. For one employee with a clear approved checklist, use New Employee Device Setup instead—Ops is not required first.

New hires wait on accounts and applications

Each new computer requires rediscovering which accounts, applications, and access steps are required before work can begin.

Departures leave access unresolved

When an employee leaves, account access, file ownership, and license status are handled inconsistently or incomplete.

Device records are incomplete

Assignments, ownership, and status are tracked in spreadsheets, shared notes, or informal records that are difficult to maintain.

What’s included

Company-wide device procedures, standards, and records—not setup of a single laptop. After handoff, New Employee Device Setup and Employee IT Offboarding can follow these standards.

Device inventory structure

Assignment, ownership, and status fields your internal owner can maintain after handoff.

Access and configuration standards

Approved applications, role requirements, naming conventions, backup expectations, and reassignment rules.

Onboarding and offboarding procedures

Documented checklists for new hires, departures, returns, replacements, and device reassignment.

Who this engagement is for

Clear criteria so organizations can determine suitability before scheduling a consultation.

Recommended when

Operations or HR currently manages employee devices

Employee device setup, access records, and departure procedures are handled by HR, operations, an office manager, or company leadership rather than dedicated internal IT staff managing employee devices.

  • No dedicated internal owner of employee-device operations.
  • Company-managed computers using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
  • Incomplete inventory, onboarding, offboarding, or return procedures.
  • Preference for a fixed-price device-operations project rather than a monthly managed IT agreement.

Not recommended when

Dedicated IT or broader infrastructure support is required

Organizations with mature internal ownership of employee-device work, an active managed-IT provider for employee transitions, or requirements outside ScreenDetect’s offerings—including server, network, or continuous security administration.

  • Dedicated internal IT staff already managing employee devices, mature zero-touch deployment, or an MSP already managing employee transitions.
  • Requirements for 24/7 support, global device logistics, or certified data destruction as the primary need.
  • No authorized contact available to approve account and access standards.

How Device Operations Setup works

Start with an Initial Consultation. If appropriate, the paid device operations assessment produces a fixed Setup proposal. Your organization retains custody of devices and credentials.

  1. 1

    Initial Consultation

A no-cost conversation about how your company handles employee devices and whether Device Operations Setup appears appropriate.

  2. 2

    Device Operations Assessment

A paid $950 review of processes, devices, applications, roles, records, and missing procedures—ending in a fixed Setup proposal.

  3. 3

    Implementation and handoff

After the proposal is accepted, establish the working inventory, train the internal owner, and deliver the final documentation.

Authorization and service limits

Written authority is required before account changes. Credentials remain with your organization.

Authorization requirements

  • A named company contact with authority to approve the engagement.
  • Written authorization before account changes, access removal, or device reassignment.
  • Your team enters every password and MFA challenge. Credentials are not collected or stored.
  • A designated administrator for Workspace, Microsoft 365, or other systems in the work.

Outside this service

  • Ongoing managed IT, help desk coverage, or monthly retainers.
  • Hardware repair, certified destruction, or warehouse logistics.
  • Security audits, compliance certification, or legal advice.
  • Lock bypass, data recovery, or open-ended troubleshooting.

Full documentation: Security and authorization.

Device Operations pricing

Start with a no-cost Initial Consultation. We review the inquiry, then invite appropriate companies to the paid $950 device operations assessment. The assessment is not available as a self-serve purchase on this page.

Required before Setup

Device Operations Assessment

$950

  • Device and application overview
  • Existing records and role-access review
  • Missing-procedure and exception analysis
  • Recommended implementation approach
  • Fixed Device Operations Setup proposal

  • Living device inventory and assignment records
  • Approved application and access records
  • Backup, storage, and device-naming standards
  • Repeatable new-employee setup procedures
  • Offboarding, return, and reassignment procedures
  • Owner training, responsibilities, and completion records

Company-wide system build—not bulk laptop setup.

How the assessment credit works

The $950 device operations assessment fee is applied in full toward your Device Operations Setup price when you accept the implementation proposal within 30 calendar days. It becomes your first payment toward the complete project rather than an additional charge on top of the Setup price.

To receive the credit, you must sign the Device Operations Setup agreement and pay the project deposit stated in the proposal within 30 calendar days of receiving it.

If you decide not to proceed or do not accept the proposal within that period, the assessment fee remains non-refundable as payment for the completed assessment and its deliverables.

Example

  • Device Operations Assessment: $950
  • Final Device Operations Setup price: $6,000
  • Assessment credit: −$950
  • Remaining amount due for Setup: $5,050
  • Total paid across both phases: $6,000

What changes the Setup price

  • Number of active company devices and important applications
  • Number of employee-role profiles and different access requirements
  • Mac, Windows, or mixed environment
  • Quality of existing inventory and documentation
  • Number of procedures required and amount of cleanup needed
  • Number of exceptions and involved stakeholders

Between basic computer setup and full managed IT

Retail setup prepares one computer. ScreenDetect creates device procedures and handles specific employee transitions. Managed IT continuously operates a broader technology environment. Market ranges are for orientation—not competitor guarantees.

Common questions

Is the Initial Consultation free?

Yes. The Initial Consultation is a no-cost conversation used to understand your situation. It is not the paid device operations assessment and does not include a fixed-price proposal.

How is this different from managed IT?

This is a fixed-price device-operations or employee-transition project with defined deliverables—not a monthly per-user retainer, infrastructure administration, or continuous help desk.

Do you collect or store our passwords?

No. Company contacts and employees enter passwords and MFA themselves. Credentials are not retained.

When is payment due?

Payment is requested after the included work for that engagement is confirmed. Requests and the Initial Consultation have no cost.

What is the Device Operations Assessment?

It is a paid $950 working engagement that reviews your current environment and produces a fixed Device Operations Setup proposal. It is not free consulting and is separate from the Initial Consultation. We invite the assessment after reviewing your inquiry and speaking with you—it is not available as a self-serve purchase.

How do I start Device Operations Setup?

Schedule an Initial Consultation. We review the inquiry, hold a short no-cost conversation, and—if appropriate—send the assessment agreement, $950 payment details, information checklist, and scheduling options. The assessment is not performed during the consultation call.

Is the assessment fee credited?

Yes. The $950 assessment fee is applied in full toward your Device Operations Setup price when you sign the Setup agreement and pay the project deposit stated in the proposal within 30 calendar days of receiving it. It is not an additional charge on top of Setup. If you decide not to proceed or miss that window, the assessment fee remains non-refundable as payment for the completed assessment.

Why is Device Operations Setup priced after assessment?

Devices, applications, roles, operating systems, existing records, required procedures, and exceptions determine the work. Employee count alone does not reliably predict the project.

Is this the same as configuring several laptops?

No. Device Operations Setup creates company-wide inventory, standards, procedures, and internal ownership. New Employee Device Setup is the separate service that prepares one employee using an approved checklist.

Is Device Operations Setup required before employee setup?

No. A company can purchase New Employee Device Setup with a one-time approved application and access list. Device Operations Setup is the better first step when requirements are inconsistent across managers or roles, devices are not tracked, or each hire would otherwise restart discovery. After Ops, employee setup follows those documented standards.
